Book cover

Yesterday I felt like taking out my sewing machine and do something completely different from crocheting. I wanted to make a fabric cover for a book (in this case my bible).

First I measured the width (front and back cover and spine) and height of the book. Then I cut out two pieces of fabric. One for the outside and one for the lining. Add some cm's on the left and right for the flaps and for the hems.

I ironed on some interfacing, to stabilize for the embellishments.

Then I added some ribbon and lace, buttons and a little charm. You can also add embroidery, or stamps. Whatever rocks your boat.

Then I sewed a small hem on the left and right (while sewing on the ribbon my interfacing was folded, but oh well, no one will ever see that :-)

I folded the fabric around my bible, book closed so it would fit nicely, and ironed down where the flaps had to come.

Then the part where I almost went wrong. Put down the outer fabric, right side up, but flaps inside out (so, right side of the flaps on right side of the cover). On top put the lining, right side down.
So the lining is right side on the right side of the cover, and on wrong side of the flaps.
I my gosh, I hope this makes sense ...

Then sew the top and bottom. Turn the whole thing.

And then put in the book.
